NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE is Hiring a Music Instructor Near Senatobia, MS

The Music Instructor is a full‐time, 9-month salaried position responsible for a variety of instrumental education instruction centered around the piano. These responsibilities involve performance accompaniment for concerts and recitals, developing and implementing course syllabi, achieving student learning outcomes, evaluating student performance, record-keeping, and related activities. Related activities include, but are not limited to, advising, serving on various committees, coordinating with area K-12 schools and other colleges and universities, participating in recruiting and retention efforts, and participating in professional activities and organizations.

REPORTS TO: District Director of Fine Arts Instruction

CONTRACT TERM: Nine (9) months 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Music or a Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in Music; 
  • Post-secondary teaching experience in Music
  • Experience teaching online
  • Experience with classroom technology 
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in piano performance, music education, or closely related field 
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level (Community College or Four-Year Institutions)
  • Experience with classroom technology
  • Experience with outcome and program assessment
  • Ability to use Microsoft office, Office 365, Canvas, and Outlook

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach Music courses, primarily class piano, collaborative piano duties for all choral rehearsals, performance accompaniment for choral concerns, collaborative piano duties for all recitals for music pathway students, Music Appreciation
  2. Grow enrollment of student pianists to maximize our Steinway School status
  3. Facilitate and coordinate piano-centric events for both community and recruitment
  4. Maintain professional association with area piano instructors
  5. Prepare, administer, and grade essays, tests, other assignments, and/or program assessment data 
  6. Maintain a record of student attendance as required by the Mississippi Community College Board
  7. Submit grades, attendance, and outcomes according to the academic calendar
  8. Manage timely engagement, grading, and communication 
  9. Participate in departmental meetings and committee assignments
  10. Complete 15 hours of professional development each year
  11. Coordinate with area K-12 schools and other colleges and universities
  12. Participate in recruiting and retention
  13. Participate in professional activities and organizations
  14. Ability to travel between campus locations 
  15. Establish effective working relationships with college administration, faculty, staff, and students
  16. Adhere to school policy as set in the Policy and Procedures Manual
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the District Director of Fine Arts Instruction
